‘Cultural heritage’ is on the banned words list and this makes it difficult to educate about, research, or experience aspects of human experience that bring pride and meaning to people. The protection and elevation of cultural heritage objects, land and expression has historically been supported by the US government through multiple projects, including programs that support the arts, museums, and national parks. The National Park Service creates and protects monuments of cultural heritage sites reflecting diverse cultural practices and historical monuments that inform our country’s culture. As this administration attempts to rewrite the history of this country with a male-white-supremacist-Christian-Nationalist template, it is understandable that they would not want us talking about, reading about, or looking into our cultural heritage — which reflects many cultures, pain and joy, and the efforts of all kinds of people to expand progressive, liberal and democratic processes to more and more people.
